Meet the Artist
As a glassblower for over 20 years, my life as an artist has evolved and continues to grow and change. While studying Fine Art at Alfred University and working at Corning, I was able to focus my creative energy in the hotshop on mixed media conceptual sculptures. As a means for introspection, creating sculpture led to soul-searching and an opportunity for self-expression. As my professional interests shifted towards becoming a primarily independent artist, my glasswork transitioned as well. I found it very gratifying to make glass work that could be more attainable and appreciated by others. I am proud to currently be developing my collection of home glass décor, made to enhance the beauty of daily life and our experience with it. The hard work and dedication required to live as a glass artist, is both challenging and rewarding. Glassworking allows me to pursue and advance my creativity, while experimenting with new skills and refining difficult techniques. I place value in quality handmade work and strive for each piece to be unique. My glass can be purchased at craft shows or in various gift shops and galleries. My online gallery acts as a source to view sample images of my work. I am happy to communicate with you about what I have available in stock and prices by request only. I create a variety of designs such as elegant vases to hang on the wall or suspend in the window; sculptural candle holders; modern soap dishes, and colorful ornaments or pumpkin lanterns. I blow glass in Corning NY, home to a rich history of glassmaking and instilled with inspiration to create with craftsmanship. With such a large community of glass artists in a small city, we keep the vitality of glass art alive, building upon its legacy.
About the Artist
Originally from Binghamton NY, Chrissy Lapham's passion for the arts has grown since childhood. With extensive experimentation in different art mediums throughout high school, she developed a diverse skill set. Her interest in pursuing art professionally, led her to attend Alfred University's School of Art & Design where she studied Fine Arts. During college Chrissy had the opportunity to explore techniques in wood working, printmaking, ceramics, metal casting, and neon. Ultimately, she found herself drawn to glassblowing, which became her concentration throughout her final years at Alfred. While working as an intern at a Gallery in her hometown, she had the opportunity to meet a team of glassmakers from The Hot Glass Show Roadshow, a traveling glassblowing demonstration stage for The Corning Museum of Glass (CMoG). After sharing her experience in glass with the Gaffers, she was offered a summer position narrating for the show at the Museum. With a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in 2005, she moved to Corning, NY where she continued to earn many glass related jobs for both CMoG and The Studio for over ten years. She worked hands-on with the public in glassmaking activities, educated visitors and students on glass techniques, and helped organize group reservations for the Museum. Currently she pursues her career as an independent studio glass artist, making and selling her work, instructing glassblowing classes and assisting as a freelance glassworker. Chrissy continues her education in glass at The Studio, a public access studio where she can rent hot shop time and take classes from world renowned glassworkers. The life-like characteristics of molten glass and the process of working with it, drive her interest in the material and her desire to learn more.
